One Man's "Junk" is Another Man's "Junque!"

So like I had mention before, the best thing about Fresno was the pluthera of Thrift stores (see "The 905"). I have decided to post a few of my finds (I actually left one store with a total of $35! I appeared to be the "rich" girl of the bunch...I am in the OC...ha, ha, j/k) below:So like I had mention before, the best thing about Fresno was the pluthera of Thrift stores (see "The 905"). I have decided to post a few of my finds (I actually left one store with a total of $35! I appeared to be the "rich" girl of the bunch...I am in the OC...ha, ha, j/k) below:

I love Rohald Dahl and I consider the Bookmobile-harback of 'The BFG' a rare find $o.95 ('Where the Sidewalk Ends' same price). Also, did you see the Nancy Drews? Fun, fun, fun :)

Books, books, books...I'm always scouring old book/thirft/2nd hand stores for old astetically appealing books. I love old books. Just wish I could read all of them, but if I ever need to look up a Portuguese word...I have just the dictionary to do it!

Can anyone identify the man in the middle? He's one of your favorite Marvel comics characters... and he's under attack (maybe I really did buy these for ME to play with...humm...)!
"Brroom, brrooom! " A combination of Matchbox, Hot Wheel, and "MADE IN CHINA" cars...$6.00 for the bunch (including Mr.Marvel Comics :)
This suitcase was lurking around in the very back of the store, buried behind other old suitcases...can I say, LOVE the buckle? :) I actually used this on my last flight to AZ. I call it my Mary Poppins suitcase. I fit so much in there, even though it looks so small. I thought I wouldn't have enough room and then I keep putting stuff in and in...
Well, as you can see, the world of thrift shops holds endless jewels and gems. And just like my grampa said, "One man's junk, is another man's junque!"
What are some of your cool Thrift shop finds???

What Is Your True Color?

Nacolynn, your true color is Black!
(like my babies daddy???)

Your color is black. The color of night. Serene and mysterious, black conjures up images of elegant evening gowns, dashing tuxedos, and gleaming limousines. Traditionally a symbol of success, black also represents power and an uncompromising demand for perfection. Not surprisingly, you tend to set challenging goals for yourself and do whatever it takes to achieve them — your strength of character is second to none. This unfaltering determination, along with your natural elegance, impresses people. But keep in mind that your personality might be intimidating to some. Try to temper your demanding side with a little softness — trust us, it won't kill you. Overall, though, black is the color of professionalism and achievement, which means it's clearly the color for you.

Humm...pretty accurate if you ask me:)
What color are you? Take you own test here.

Birthdays...

I'm using today to pay tribute to some of my favorite birthday memories...

  • Labyrinth. Growing up this movie would be a "must-see." I made parents search for this movie yearly during my elementary days. We watched it with my girlfriends for every birthday slumber party.

  • Sledding. Since my b-day is in Jan. and being close the snowy mountains, sledding in the nearby hills was a b-day favorite. I told my mom that's what I wanted to do. This was accompanied by cheese, crackers, and Hickory Farms beef sticks, yum:) My family was there, including Lyndsay J., Lisa Hess, and Callie Bunderson (those are the only ones I remember!)

  • Dodge ball. The year my mother made me invite every single girl in the 6th grade. Apparently I wanted so many people there that only a few girls would be left out, so my mother made me extend the invitation so that all would be included. We went to the CD 3rd Ward building church and played dodge ball (yeah, Adrianne Bradley and I thought we had one mean throw!). I remember getting homemade crotchet butterfly barrettes from Corey Lefler? which I later turned into wall hangings:)

  • Betos. One year, the girls threw me a surprise b-day party @ Betos at midnight It won the prize for earliest b-day party ever. Nila had Manny make up some story (which I completely believed) about having to meet up with his friend Peter who was passing through town on his way back to The 915. I was completely surprised and happy to have some of my favorite people (Nila, MALEINA, Emma, Jared, Gary, Emily, Jo, etc.) at one of my favorite late night eating spots.

  • Pinatas. This was the b-day I had in Utah right before I moved to Cali to accept a new job. We had cake and ice cream at Nick & Vee's place in Orem (by the Novell house). The highlight was when they brought the pinata out (to celebrate the Mexican in me). We hung it out under the porch and swung away..."here fishy, fishy!" (I think it all started with the palm tree pinata @ age 23...my roomies know my true roots...VIVA LA RAZA!) lol

Well, I could go on and on about memorable birthdays, but I will spare you the monotony:) I'm 28 today. It doesn't seem like I've lived very many years, but much has transpired over the years making me grateful for each one. Yes, many years of been better than some, but good or bad, I've been happy just the same. So, here to all those people who have made dailys worthwhile, taught me life long lessons, laughed and cried with me and helped shape me into the person I am today, ahe'hee:)

2008's gonna be great!

The 559

aka FRESNO.

So, our Walnut Creek office decided they didn't have enough people to staff one of their project in Fresno (~4.5 hour drive from Irvine). So, I'll be here for a couple of days (one of which will be my birthday - that should be interesting). The city has already given me a warm welcome, a police escort upon entering to be exact. To bad he had to notice my speed (84 in a 64 zone...is it my fault the Altima wanted to go faster?). Luckliy he had mercy on me and let me off with a "fix it ticket." So, I will be changing my address upon returning to the OC.

Thank goodness for friendly cops. Oh, and I'm still trying to decide what all those smells are....

P.S. Fresno just so happens to be THE place for one-stop Thrift shop, shopping. SERIOUSLY. I found 3 on one block...THREE! And 2 more in the area...I got some GREAT finds. Who'd of thought?

Its a Small World Afterall...

(I just realized I end pretty much everything with "..." anyways...:)

"Time, time, who's got the time???"

Apparently I did. I took half a day on Thurs. to meet up with my brother-in-laws family at Disneyland. They try to take a trip yearly with the kids. Sadly enough, my sister and the little ones couldn't make it this year (dang UVSC), but it was good to see the Peterson just the same. Now I know its only a 25 min. drive from my house (15 without traffic), but I've seriously only been twice. I always thought it to be more of a place for children, but I have to admit that I entirely enjoy myself everytime I go. Not to mention, that many of my friends will now be happy to know that I am a proud owner of a season pass, which means more visits, and more Cinderella and Snow White.
I also forgot to mention that Mel & Doreen both had those fancy self-powered wheel chairs, this meant that we got to the front of the lines with no problem. I would honestly consider renting one, just to skip the long lines...j/k ;)

Here are some pics of Thurs. events:

Is my hair really that brown? My 1st ride of the day: The Matterhorn w/Jess & Chutchut

Yeah for Space Mountain! Russ & I literally were running after these girls to get in line. Did I mention that we rode it twice...in a row? Yeah for youth.

The girls sitting still for a pic.

Chap's "Pirate face," they did a FANTASTIC job with the paint.

The End.

"...in south central L.A., TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY..."

One of the things I love most about LA are the blank canvas' disguised as empty walls, buildings, freight trucks, or locomotives. I feel like a kid in a candy store when I come across a newly tagged train, or a painted up alley. My addiction to graffiti art has led me down skid row, trailing the tracks, and up alleys and side walls, most (if not all) in areas where my mother would cringe to know I'm at; and places where my little brother says, "yeah, but can mase counteract a gun from 100' away?" It is this obsession that led me to today's little adventure. I was headed downtown, actually in search of Giant Robot, which had obviously long been converted into an American Apparel, anyways, these are a few of the pieces I saw today (and yes, mother, in perfectly safe areas...this time:)

"Up again the wall, up against the wall..."

This guy had the same idea I had.
"I wish I had a big brother," mutter a on-looking homeless man.

This one was a love piece of sorts.

U.N.I.T.Y.

Make love not war!!!

I'll post more pics later of awesome walls and signs I captured during my "travels." But first, I must condense them:) Peace.

A Tribute to My Baby...Out w/The Old, In w/The New

So, many of you have been asking to see pics of the new ride...while others didn't even know I had one. I will also take this time to pay tribute to my old baby (may she R.I.P.). We'd been through a lot together and I will always remember the times we had...she will never be forgotten. Here goes, to memories and new beginnings! :)
This was her 1st surf trip. My little champagne colored 2001 Honda Civic EX. I took her and the boards down to San O. Wasn't she cute?

This is the tow truck taking her after the 2 blown head gaskets...sad, sad, day. ): It actually happened while I was in Nor Cal visiting the brothers and sister. I tried to drive her back to OC like that (@ night, going 45 mph most the way, with frequent stops), needless to say, it didn't make and I had to have her towed to Santa Clarita and later (AFTER I signed up for AAA), to home.

Anyways, I had gotten her fixed after that little event, only to have her go out on me again. I drove her to Utah the 1st weekend of Dec. for Jacob's mission farewell/an early Christmas. She made it to Utah fine, until I decided to head to Provo, from my parents house. I had started up the canyon but didn't make it to far (thankfully). I had to turn around (drive only worked some of time) and ended up coasting to cell phone reception area. So after I had her towed to Orem (thank you AAA) and got a of about $3G to replace the transmission, I decided that it was time to switch the thing out (did I mention this happened ~2.5 months after I replaced the engine?). Anyways, so my "Good-for-300,ooo+Honda" ended up being a lemon, which inspired the need for a new car. Luckily, my little brother works for Legacy Mazda in Orem, which is where I got this:
A proud new car owner. Finally getting the keys to the car, after HOURS of paperwork.
Bag of Bluebird, free with purchase, for a limited time only :)

Isn't she cute? :)
Well, there you have it. My new 2007 Mazda6. New, means I don't have to worry about new engines or failed transmissions. Which makes this driver, happy, very happy.
::peace::

Somethings in life should be free, right? I definitely think so:)

So, we stopped by the Ostrich Farm on our way to Auga Caliente for camping. Not only does this place sell ostrich jerky, but you can also get wood there (and did MIKEY need wood). ANYWAYS, I thought it extremely ridiculous and somewhat of a joke to see that wood was $25/wheel barrel full! We had the whole back of Mike's truck to fill with wood, and @ $25 a small wheel barrel??? Yikes! Especially when at home we can practically get it for free (at a physical cost maybe, but its still cheaper). I just think if funny. One would think that since trees in the wilderness are in the wilderness, you could just get wood for free. But like the rest of recreation in California, people use the "Great Outdoors" as a way to make money (yet another thing to capitalize after). I just hope some people think this is as funny and I did. Ha, ha...needless to say, we ended up getting a deal at $50 to fill the back of the truck (Jose was winking quite a bit at the guy, but I just thought he had something in his eye...?). So, I guess I should be happy since we did need wood. WORD.

.peace.

P.S. This is the 1st of will hopefully be many blogs on this site...a new year, a new blog site. Yeah, for 2008!
