Water Colour

Ages ago I took a water colour class with my mother at the local Senior Citizen center (have I shared this before?). It was a night class and our teacher was female.  I, was the youngest in the bunch. I learned how to manipulate paint, proper brush care, the wonders of a light box, etc. with group of older women. I loved it.  I had so much fun painting (I don't really remember much technique, but still love to paint when I make the time).  I always used my mothers paints and brushes (never had my own) and perhaps in college I acquired more, but if I had they've since been lost.  I have a series of water colour crayons and pencils that I've used and a little hard paint kit (this is my current collection).  I've been wanting to get back into painting again (I took a little side path and ventured into acrylics) but over all, water colours, you have my heart (I have yet to try the other painting mediums).  So I did it.  I splurged and bought me a basic color set.  I. Love. It. Paint it tubes is so much different from hard color sets (not sure of the exact name, but you know the ones I'm talking about, the kind you that looks like the Crayola set you had as a kid...but mine is a bit a step up from that). I hate to admit that I've actually owned this set for probably a couple months now and have finally broken it out.  I didn't really paint anything fantastic, just played around with the color and my brushes, but it was fun just the same.  Perhaps if I get something decent I'll post pics.  If not, know that I'm enjoying my time with my paints, paper and ideas. Happy painting!
P.S. Does anyone else NOT proof read before they submit? Or is it just me????

Jan. 1, 2009

What did you do today??? This is what I did...

1. Made waffles for breakfast.

2. MADE homemade bread. There's a reason why people don't make bread anymore. It literally took me ALL DAY LONG. Mix, rise 1 1/2 hrs., kneed, rise another 45 min., put in pan, let rise another hour to double...seriously...and the final result? Its edible, but ugly and I thought there were enough for 2 loafs but it ended up being only one. Anyways...I'm going to continue to buy my bread. The only bread I will be making is banana.
I had thought there were enough for 2 loafs...either they didn't rise "double their size," or I misjudged? I also didn't know how to roll them. I just formed them in long shapes and put them in the pan (I tried to understand my mothers directions via phone, yeah...).The final product: tastes edible when plastered with butter and jam of choice. lol

3. Painted. Our living room piece still isn't finished (its completely experimental) and I had to do something while waiting for the bread to rise...3 times!

4. Then went here, thanks Antro!:
Ahhh....what a lovely way to end the day :)

Mas Primeros...

So, thanks to my lovely, ever so eloquent friend Allison Lew, I've "stolen/borrowed" her photographs of what was my 1st printblock? printmaking? (ha, ha...I don't even know what its called). Anyways, I'm still new to this form of art. It was fun, but I seriously need some directions. I think I drew blood twice, SERIOUSLY. I don't know how to use that carving tool! Anyways, presenting...

"My First"

Its double printed here because it didn't "stamp" so well (I used my acrylic paints, but I know I've seen "print blocking" paint at the art supply store, so I'm assuming you need to use that). Well, I'd appreciate any help or input! I'm always looking for more instruction! Thanks peeps...

Finished?

So, I've decided its much harder to work with acrylics than it is for watercolors. I've decided to wait to put paint onto the canvas' until I get a feel for the medium. I found out a friend of mine paints and I told her about the new addition to my artistic world. She told me they have cavnas pads (I told you I know NOTHING about acrylics, but I should of guess as much) and gave me a sheet to practice on. Well I decided I should outline something and sort of color in to see what happens. So this is how it begun:

And its completely changed each time I sit down (I think I've changed it 4 times now?)...This is what its become thus far:

And here's another one...(don't ask me why the hearts...I didn't realize it was a theme).

I've purchased 4 different brands of paints now, trying to see which I like better than the next, or if I can even tell a difference. Thus far, I have no idea. I know which one I like best, the Lascaux...but that's only dependant on the packaging:) I did find another art store that I prefer over Sterling Art. Its called Art Supply Warehouse, located in Westmisister. Most of their stuff is discounted, and they sell oh so many supplies (including Kidrobot stuff - who makes the Zipit I love to buy).

Anyways...I'm going to try and paint something else, like a tree or sunset or something...anyways, we'll see what happens. I'll keep you posted.
